Favourite Benefits of Singing Are:
Music as Therapy
Inner Emotional Reach
Strengthen Core
Singing activates the heart chakra and the throat chakra which allows for the release of energy stored in relation to communication issues within relationships specifically - which may just be why we have so many love songs out in the world!
When we store away both positive and negative emotions into the throat area, it has to come out someway ...
and the main options are yelling, crying, laughing or singing.
Yelling
I'm not a huge fan of yelling because unfortunately it usually gets aimed at someone which is never nice.
If you get the chance to go out in the middle of the bush and yell, that can certainly be fun!
Crying
Crying is great way to release sadness, grief, worry, stress ... all sorts of different feelings.
It sometimes happens when we are so full of happiness, hence the term 'happy tears'.
Laughing
Laughing is a wonderful way to let go of inhibitions as well as emotions.
There is something about letting loose and just laughing however it may sound that fills the soul.
Singing
Singing feels like a softer form of yelling in that you can still form words,
but they fall into the music and carry themselves in a different way across the sound waves.
All of this emotional release is why we now have "Scream Therapy", "Music Therapy" and "Laughter Therapy" as known ways to
LET IT ALL OUT! Crying seems to be a more personal approach but I'm sure there is a group out there somewhere!!
Singing is also a wonderful way to strengthen your inner core muscles which are important to retain flexibility and strength as we age.
We also take deeper breaths and learn to control our breathe which is an important way of ensuring we get enough oxygen to maintain our health to a high level.
So the next time you hear your favourite song, or you find yourself inspired in the shower,
Take a deep breath
AND sing your little heart out!!
Singing doesn't have to be 'good' for other people unless you plan to make it as your career, this kind of singing is for you and how it makes you feel throughout your body and soul.
So sing out loud, sing out strong and be proud of whatever noise comes out of your body!
